Abyssinian Cat

This breed was introduced in the late 1800s, gaining attention for its charming looks and distinctive coat. Abyssinians are famous for their jolly nature, medium-size, and loving temperament, which make them a cherished and popular cat breed around the world.

American Bobtail

American Bobtail History:
The establishment of the American Bobtail breed is rooted in the wild domestic cat, which has natural bobtails. A breed of domestic cat, the American Bobtail was introduced in the late 1960s. It is believed that this breed is the result of natural mutation and features a unique short tail. In the 1980s, the selective breed began to attract attention for its friendly nature and wild appearance. The American Bobtail breed has gained immense popularity as a lovable and unique companion.

American Shorthair
Name: American Shorthair
Origin: Europe, North America
Breed History:
The American Shorthair was brought by the first settlers of Jamestown on the Mayflower in 1620 or even earlier by Spanish explorers to Florida. In 1634, a publication credited these tiny hairs with protecting New England crops from chipmunks and squirrels. In 1895, this cat breed was first exhibited at the United States Cat Show and was later recognized as a founding breed by the Cat Fanciers' Association in 1906.

American Wirehair

Breed History:
The American Wirehair first occurred as a mutation in Vernon in 1966 in upstate New York. A cat breeder, Mrs Joan O’Shea, takes an interest in American wirehair and bought it for $50. The wirehair kittens are developed and sold to interesting breeders. CFA recognized it in 1967 and 1978 and accepted it for the championship competition.

Balinese Cat

Breed History:
First seen in the 1940s, American breeders finalized to separate Balinese and Siamese. For this reason, they breed these kittens together to see if they could reliably give birth to long-haired kittens with the same Siamese look. No other feline breed has been incorporated in the ancestry of the Balinese, and they were first sent to the United Kingdom in the year 1973.

Bengal Cat

Breed History:
The Bengal is a modern cat developed in the 1990s in the United States. It crossed the Asian Leopard cat with domestic tabby cat and other short hair breeds such as the Burmese, Egyptian Mau, and Abyssinian. The International Cat Association in 1986 accepted the Bengal cat. It gained TICA championship status in 1991.

Birman Cat

Breed History:
The Birman name is derived from Birmanie. It originates from France. There was a priest named Mun-Ha who was laid to death, then the cat Shin put a leg on his body, and the cat transformed. The cat's feet remain white, which is considered pure. When World War 2 ended, only two cats were left. The British cat fancy associations recognized the Birman cat in 1966. In 1967, CFA recognized it, and in 1979, TICA accepted the Birman cat.

British Shorthair Cat

Breed History:
The British Shorthair came from Rome and was brought here with the Romans as ratters, mousers, and perhaps sneaky stowaways. These cats, brought by Roman invaders, would have been intelligent, weather-resistant, and hardy enough to survive and mix with native wild cats. They were eventually selectively bred for their affectionate nature and attractive, round appearance. Initially known as the British Shorthair in the year 1870, the cat breed has been famous ever since.

Burmese Cat

Breed History:
In 1930, Dr. Joseph Thompson imported Wong Mau, a black female cat, from a trip to San Francisco. Wong Mau has a smaller compact body than that of the Siamese cat. Dr. Joseph Thompson decided to convert Wong Mau to one of her brown cats. After that, the cat is transformed and gets the name Burmese. In 1936, the Cat Fanciers Association registered Burmese cats.

Burmilla Cat

Breed History:
The burmilla breed was born unexpectedly in the early 1980s. The baroness in the United Kingdom has two cats, a Chinchilla Persian and a Burmese, who are waiting for a partner in their rooms. One night, the cleaner left the room open, and cats met each other and produced a kitten in 1981 known as Burmilla.

Chartreux Cat Breed

Breed History: This cat variety has faced tough times in its initial journey. During the Second World War, economic crisis, and other famines, Charteux had to struggle a lot to survive.
Later in the 20th century, cat breeders understood that very few wild colonies of this breed existed. Hence, they worked to preserve this breed.
