Benefits of living with a pet - Mental wellness and physical fitness

Pets surely manage to bring so much joy and happiness into our lives. They make us smile, laugh and make us comfortable  when we’re sick or upset, and are always there for us no matter what.

Not many people understand the bond between humans and animals, though, or even realises how much pets do for their owners. Goofy tails made an infographic for you which you can save on your smartphones and pass on the beautiful message.

In this infographic we look at the top benefits of having a furry pet

Pets help reduce blood pressure and promote heart health

Top researchers in Cardiology praise dogs as a way to lower blood pressure and improve heart health. In a recent survey of people having borderline heart problems, those who adopted dogs experience declines in blood pressure levels. Research has shown similar results for cat owners as well.

Pets lower your cholesterol & stress levels

Daily modern life is stressful and high levels of anxiety can lead to numerous health problems. Luckily, pets can really help us stay calm & relax – stroking your cat or simply watching fish swim around in a tank can make your worries melt away. Recent studies have proven that pet owners tend to have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels than people who don’t own a pet. That means having a furry pal can decrease the chances of suffering a heart attack later in life. If you live by yourself, it can get awfully lonely at home sometimes, unless you have a pet.  Dogs and cats both make great companions. Plus, most of the time they are up for snuggling up on your sofa. They also make you feel safe if you are all alone in the house.

Having a pet helps you stay more active and outdoorsy

Going out to walk the dog or cleaning the litter box can seem difficult to fit into a busy urban schedule. Still, it needs to get done, and those who have pets benefit from more exercise than the average person. Dog-owners especially feel more motivated to go for walks out of responsibility and will likely spend more time outside playing catch or frisbee.. Even those with cats can reap the rewards. You may not take the cat out for walks, but you’ll get moving by playing with the cat, picking up toys, or cleaning up. If you are a lazy person then they will surely make you more active and playful.

They can improve your immune system & reduce risk of illness

Pets can  bring all sorts of dirt and germs into your home. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though – the additional germs can help improve your immunity to colds and other mild illnesses. In fact, animal researchers  have shown that young kids & babies  who live with a pet dog tend to get lesser infections and are generally more healthier than those who don’t.

Pets help us socialize and meet new people

Whether sitting at your local street corner , dog park or chatting with the shop owner about the best brand of pet food in India, pets give us a way to break the ice and find a common ground for conversation. Pets are really  helpful in easing people out of social isolation and shyness. If you are out with your dog “People ask about your pet, breed, they watch the dog's tricks. Interesting part is that sometimes  the conversation  you have with strangers stays at the 'dog level,' and on some occasions it becomes a real social interchange." Who knows? You could even meet your crush while walking or a land a date with fellow dog owner on your next walk through the park.
