Taigan

Breed History:

The Taigan is a rare ancient sighthound originating from the mountainous regions of Kyrgyzstan. For centuries, the breed was developed by the nomadic Kyrgyz people to hunt game in the rugged terrain of the Tian Shan Mountains. Unlike many lowland sighthounds, the Taigan evolved to work effectively at high altitudes, pursuing prey such as foxes, hares, marmots, wolves, and even mountain goats.

The breed was highly valued for its speed, endurance, intelligence, and ability to navigate steep, rocky landscapes. Traditionally, Taigans were often used alongside trained golden eagles in a hunting practice known as eagle hunting.

Today, the Taigan is considered a national treasure of Kyrgyzstan and remains one of Central Asia's most distinctive hunting breeds.
