Posavac Hound

Breed History:
The Posavac Hound, also known as the Posavski Gonič, is a traditional scenthound originating from the Posavina region of Croatia. Its history dates back several centuries, with dogs of this type appearing in historical records and artwork from the 15th century. The breed was developed to hunt hare, fox, wild boar, and other game across the dense forests and marshlands surrounding the Sava River.
Through generations of selective breeding, the Posavac Hound became renowned for its excellent nose, endurance, and distinctive, melodious voice while tracking. It remains one of Croatia's most respected native hunting breeds and is still widely used by hunters today.
Although primarily a working hound, the Posavac Hound also makes a loyal and affectionate companion for active owners.
