Laizhou Hong

Breed History:
The Laizhou Hong is a large working dog breed originating from the Laizhou region of China. The breed was developed relatively recently by crossing local Chinese working dogs with imported breeds such as the German Shepherd and other mastiff- or guard-type dogs to create a powerful, intelligent, and versatile utility dog.
Originally bred for guarding, police work, farm protection, and companionship, the Laizhou Hong became valued for its loyalty, courage, and adaptability. The breed remains relatively rare outside China and is still primarily used as a working and protection dog.
Its name “Hong” refers to the breed’s commonly seen reddish coat colour.
