Catalan Sheepdog

Breed History:
The Catalan Sheepdog, known in its native language as the Gos d'Atura Català, is a traditional herding breed originating in the region of Catalonia in northeastern Spain. For centuries, shepherds relied on these intelligent and versatile dogs to herd and guard sheep throughout the Pyrenees Mountains and the surrounding countryside.
The breed became highly valued for its ability to work independently, manage livestock over difficult terrain, and respond quickly to a shepherd's commands. During the 20th century, the Catalan Sheepdog nearly disappeared, but dedicated breeding programs helped preserve and restore the breed.
Today, it is recognized as one of Spain's most respected native herding breeds and is also popular as a family companion and canine sports dog.
