Breed History:

The Foldex is a relatively new cat breed developed in Canada during the 1990s. The breed originated from crossing Scottish Folds with Exotic Shorthairs, with later breeding programs using other related breeds to establish its characteristic appearance.

The Foldex was developed to combine the folded ears of the Scottish Fold with the rounded head, short muzzle, and plush coat of the Exotic Shorthair. Canadian breeder Marlene Berger played an important role in developing and promoting the breed.

The breed was first shown in Canada in the 1990s and was recognised by the Canadian Cat Association (CCA) as a distinct breed in 1995.

Foldex cats may be born with either folded or straight ears, depending on whether they inherit the gene responsible for folded ears.

Today, the Foldex is valued as a gentle, affectionate, playful, and adaptable companion known for its rounded appearance, plush coat, and distinctive folded ears.
